Dear Poll: Do You Buy Clothes For Your Boyfriend?

With most couples I know, the woman usually has a big say when it comes to the man's wardrobe. While this certainly isn’t true for everyone, it’s not surprising that many women in long-term relationships actually do most of the shopping for the man. Though I do know many men with serious fashion sense, I know even more guys who would gladly wear the same tennis shoes and worn out T-shirt for 20 years if they could. So do you buy clothes for your boyfriend or do you trust him to hit the stores solo?

Hahaha, I would LOVE to find a guy that has a fashion sense. Buut, seeing as they are few and far between, with the last guy I didn't actually buy things for him, but I steered him in the right direction "ummm, you should buy this polo because you already have SO many t-shirts, try something different!" and then of course when he tries it on: "ooohhh baby, you look so sexy in that!!", and he did because it was different. lol lol. Laughing out loud I was prob. more blunt than that though.... :/, but that's what I like to think I said, ha.

I really want a guy that can dress himself decently though, I have enough problems taking care of myself, I don't need a "kid" that I have to pick clothes for/buy clothes for, and dress.

My boyfriend is pretty capable of dressing himself but now I'm with him he's more than happy for me to tag along when he needs clothes. Smiling He's a very practical shopper... in... out... look for what he needs!

I'll buy him t-shirts and that kind of thing though. Smiling I love treating him to clothing. I also love ironing his shirts though!

I need my husband's opinion more than he needs mine when it comes to clothes shopping! Sticking out tongue

I loathe shopping or thinking about fashion and yes, I have a bunch of old t-shirts and 10-year old sneakers. That being said, though, I have an actual fashion sense and almost always look sharpish (if I say so myself). My girlfriends have made some forays into suggestions though and I always appreciated it.

lilCROAT03, I will have to remember your boyfriend's tactics for melting a lady's heart - he sounds like a clever man! I never knew us guys even used the word "hemming" - what is it anyway? (j/k)

No my fiance has a fashion sense that I love. There are just a couple of things in his wardrobe that I don't particularly like. I do buy him clothes as gifts however, and everything is dandy.

I go shopping with my beau now, or else all he'd buy were tshirts and jeans! He can be terrible. When I moved in he had like 100 t shirts all ripped and gross. I made him throw most of them away!

We go shopping together now, he usually picks something up when I'm out anyway Smiling

I don't have a boyfriend, but my guy friends frequently consult me on their trips to buy clothes. A close friend of mine is moving to the city I live in 5 days from now, and he said something along the lines of "I'm so happy, I can finally buy clothes now that I have you!" When we were apart, we had to do it by picture message! Eye-wink

when my fiance and i first started going out i would buy him clothes cause i knew that his style was different than mine but he was always telling me about things that he liked but didn't know if they would work on him. i started to pick up one or two things when i was out and he loved it. lately i just don't seem to have enough spare $$ around to buy him anything, but i definitely try to find him something if i can since i know that he likes my taste.

My boyfriend hates shopping and couldn't care less about how he dresses. He doesn't need to look sharp to attend class, so although I wanted to make over his wardrobe when we first started dating, I've let that go. He thinks it's a waste of money, so I don't want him to spend money on something he won't find a worthy investment, and I don't want to spend money on something he doesn't want. Every now and then, I'll buy him an outfit as a present, and we're pretty content with that.

Ayrton: hemming is the way its put together where the stitching is (usually at the ends of the fabric)...when you say something about the hemming it can also mean the over all way it's sewn (sometimes even referring to shape. it melted my heart bc it was something that i had been trying to teach him and while i thought he could give a sh*t he turned around and used the info in the correct way! yay! he got a gold star.
however, if you go around and use that around some other chicks they'll just think you're gay. so careful.

I like my bf's style, but if I'm out shopping by myself (well, without him along) and I see a funky Tshirt or something that I think he might like, I'll probably buy it as a surprise gift.

Yup I started buying clothes for bfs 3 boyfriends ago. That particular boyfriend could NOT dress for the life of him. Baggy t-shirts and baggy jeans. He also didn't have a lot of money and I felt bad for him, so I practically bought his entire wardrobe over the course of two years. Nothing fancy-- just polo shirts and button-downs, and he started to dress better. Problem solved.

The next bf was kind of metro, (no, REALLY metro) so I only bought one button-down for him, as a just-because gift because I knew he'd like it.

The current bf is in-between the other two. He dresses like a normal guy-- polo shirts and jeans or khaki shorts. I have no complaints about his dress sense. However, he doesn't like shopping so I have a feeling I will end up buying a ton of clothes for him (mostly because I like to buy stuff for other people, but also because I don't want him wearing the same shirts over and over again!)
