Do You Remember to Send in Rebates?

Rebates are one of the ways retailers entice us to proceed with a purchase and offer ourselves some soothing rationalization for doing so. We calculate the rebate when figuring an item's total, yet in the end many of us end up paying full price.

According to consulting firm Vericours, 40 percent of rebates go unredeemed, meaning our forgetfulness / laziness / apathy gives retailers a big win. I'm certainly guilty of procrastinating rebate redemptions until they're expired, are you?

there have been a few times that i've forgotten to send them in and it really makes me upset to know that i've lost out on getting some of my money back. the worst is when i got my blackberry a few months ago. i thought that i was getting a great deal and instead, since i didn't sent back the rebate - i paid just as much as everyone else. what a shame! i could use that $100!

I have only ever missed one...and it was a big one! My bf misses them a lot, so much so that now I'm in charge of household rebates.

Yes I'm good - it's because of my mom. When I was younger she used to make me do her rebates for her (like fill in the info, send the damn thing, etc.) and would let me keep whatever money came back. Hehehe!

Most of the time I make a purchase due to the rebate. I love getting free items after rebates.

I make a point to get the rebate put together and in an envelope as soon as I get home from making the purchase, that way I don't forget!

I am always so good about it, especially if its worth over $20. It just makes me mad that companies do rebates KNOWING to expect only a little bit of them redeemed so I have to call them out!!

I usually remember if you can do it online. If I have to mail it in I forget.

I worked for a company that processed rebates, and I'm of the opinion it's a fairly evil system that banks on you a)not sending it in and b)not following excessively complicated instructions.

Making a purchase based on a rebate is a poor decision as it is.

those things are such a crock. Every time I've done one they either don't send the money or by the time they do the cash card has expired.

I'm so bad. I actually have two to turn in.
It would give me an extra $200 if I did them. I just lost the reciept for one of them, though Sad

I definitely forget sometimes...but I guess that's the beauty of rebates in the business world
