The women on Forbes's fifth annual list of the 100 most powerful women in the world control $26 trillion worldwide, and the list is an impressive grouping of government and company leaders. While these individuals are doing quite well for themselves, women hold just 15 percent of top corporate jobs in the US and are chief executives for less than 3 percent of the country's biggest companies. Here are the top 10 most powerful females; visit Forbes for the full list.

  1. Angela Merkel: Chancellor, Germany
  2. Sheila C. Bair: Chairman, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC), US
  3. Indra K. Nooyi: Chairman and chief executive, PepsiCo, US
  4. Angela Braly: Chief executive and president, WellPoint, US
  5. Cynthia Carroll: Chief executive, Anglo American, UK
  6. Irene B. Rosenfeld: Chairman, chief executive, Kraft Foods, US
  7. Condoleezza Rice: Secretary of state, US
  8. Ho Ching: Chief executive, Temasek Holdings, Singapore
  9. Anne Lauvergeon: Chief executive, Areva, France
  10. Anne Mulcahy: Chairman, chief executive, Xerox Corp., US

i think that it's wonderful that Ms. Rice is still on the list and up there - although i think that she's slipping a bit no? i wonder what will happen in the years to come. i did see that the Chancellor of Germany is up there and that's really interesting to me.

Wow, what an amazing list with some amazing women. This is such a great thing, even though I wish it was more women instead of the 15% that held corporate jobs.
