As you may know, October is officially Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) month. That means it's time to think pink. All sorts of beauty companies typically include some variation of pink products and/or packaging in observance of this devastating disease, usually donating a percentage of the profits to support the cause. I agree princess. And not to sound cold (I do the Susan G. Komen run every year!) but breast cancer gets a ton of attention and funding, which is great, but I try to support causes that don't get as much attention, but still effect my family. I try to direct my money and time towards prostate cancer research and mental illness (bipolar/schizophrenia) research and advocacy. I don't think people are going to be wearing prostate cancer ribbons any time soon!

Maybe not prostate cancer ribbons, but there is always MOvember, which I highly support and is very popular. I recently found a pair of shoes I adore, which support breast cancer, so I will definitely be buying those, but I dont tend to support things in this manner unless its relevant.

usually it's just an accident when something i want ends up supporting breast cancer awareness. btw, i'm pretty sure we're all aware that breast cancer exists. i hope the foundation MAINLY supports research and science to beat the cancer rather than commercials about awareness. if not, then i can't actually feel right supporting it. it's like that red campaign where the money raised was mostly used to make and sell more of the products which raised awareness, and very little of it went to making an actual difference.

Seeing the BC ribbon or special packaging would probably draw my attention to a product I wouldn't normally notice. I would only buy it if it was something I thought I'd use.

While breast cancer is a great cause to support, I personally choose to donate to leukemia research funds because a family friend died from it. I also donate to Alzheimer's research because my grandpa died from it. But if I need something and the product is donating some of its proceeds to breast cancer research, I'll buy it.

Sometimes, but I actually buy items that support raising awareness for domestic violence alot more often than the breast cancer items.

My mother, aunt, and grandmother have all been breast cancer survivors, so breast cancer is something that always worries me. I have done a 5K run, and occasionally I will pick up something, but only if I want it. It's nice to know a portion of the proceeds go to something important.

Sometimes I'm lured in by the cute packaging or the fact that a product is limited edition, plus I love the color pink. It's an added bonus when a portion of the proceeds goes toward the BCA cause. But in general, I feel that it's mostly a marketing tactic used by companies to promote their own products rather than really donating to the cause. In my opinion, if they really want to support the cause, these companies should be donating 100 percent of the proceeds.

Avon and Mark do fabulous products for breast cancer (and not all of them are a heinous shade of juvenile pink!) so it's easy to buy those. I also have the pink ribbon tweezerman and can opener.

I like to buy anything that supports a cause. But yes, I buy a lot of BC awareness products! I used to buy them because they are pink which I love, but now I buy it because my mom is a survivor. And no, I don't really need the six things I just bought at Sephora. But I agree with bellakitten..they should donate 100% of the proceeds if they really wanted to support it.

if i'm actually going out to buy something and they have a version that supports breast cancer then i'll absolutely buy that version rather than the regular one, but i think that in general, i won't just buy something if it's not already on my list.

I don't buy things that say they support breast cancer research (unless it's something I need and would have purchased anyway) simply because there is no guarantee how much of the purchase price will actually go towards the research. I prefer to donate directly. (It's tax deductible that way, too!)

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for research and funding for cancer treatment/prevention. But I donate to foundations that research/treat other cancers, like lung cancer and skin cancer. I'm glad that we've come so far in treating breast cancer; now it's time for some OTHER cancers to get funding.

If there is an option, if I already need something, I'd choose one that supports a cause. However most of the breast cancer stuff is very bright pink (which I hate) so its hard to justify buying something I don't need, in a colour I hate, rather then taking the money I would spend on frivolous stuff and just donating it right to the cause. Most things are 10% donation or something like that, but I feel like if I'm going to spend $100 might as well just give the money to the cause and save the clutter. But that's just my humble opinion.
