Burger King Goes High-End

Number two fast food chain Burger King has been testing a new line of premium items. This includes ribs and thicker burgers, made with grills, batch broilers, and other costly new kitchen equipment.

The fast food chain's decision to move in the direction of higher-price items comes at a time when the casual restaurant industry is struggling. National chains have seen declining sales across the board; Burger King is hoping to capitalize on the industry's market share.

CEO John Chidsey said he wouldn't elaborate further "because some things are still under wraps," but the chain's gourmet menu items could be advertised as soon as next Summer.

Still, Burger King has no plans to lose its value menu. "We work the value for the money equation on both ends of our menu," said Russ Klein, Burger King's president of global strategy.

Does Burger King's new strategy surprise you? Do you think the corporation will manage to draw business away from the casual restaurant business?

Just as long as they keep their 99 cent chicken tenders, more power to them.

Hold the phone - Do I see salmon and shrimp in that picture?? From BK?! Seafood from a fast food restaurant (like Long John Silver's) does not seem trustworthy. Not that any of it is, but I want my seafood super fresh...

Looks like a print from a Red Lobster ad to me. Chedder bay biscuits anyone? Smiling

well i think that there's something to be said about trying to capitalize on the struggles that other chains are having, even if they aren't direct competition. everything is an opportunity, and i think that there could be something to it - although even if i did eat meat, i don't know if i would choose BK to get ribs vs a real sit down restaurant.

I like Baconators as well, as long as they're not super extra greasy.

And as far as ribs at a fast food joint go, all I care about is that McDonald's brings back the McRib, NOW!!!

PS - Something about Wendy's in Vegas, they hella skimp on the Bacon in the Baconator but lacquer it all over a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger. Go figure.

That's funny, you'd think they'd give baconic priority to the more expensive sandwich.

    Meetup at the Vegas Wendy's!

Every time I get a bacon cheeseburger, I think, "How many kosher laws can a person break at once?"

Wouldn't work, he'd eat all the bacon himself. Plus, he's a cat. He doesn't understand the point of working, when he has me to make money for his food Sticking out tongue

You girls can't be serious about the McRib, that thing is super nasty. Hubby bought one years ago in CA desert town and when I tried to give it to the homeless guy he said I can't eat that crap. True story.

I agree that the McRib can be nasty but like any fast food, sometimes it can be made right and fit to eat other times it can be down-right vomit-inducing.

I've only had the McRib twice, and both times it was up to par for me.

Still.. I'd much rather stick to my Jr. BACON cheeseburgers from Wendy's.

Yes, but what is the McRib? It's not ribs, there's no bone and heck I'll just eat a salad or go to Wendy's and I'm all for the Bacon Week.

Not a huge BK fan, although if they brought in a lobster sandwich I would be more for it! MCD's has one on the east coast of Canada (Named McLobster) and it is delish!
