Do "iPhone Killers" Make You Think Twice?

Although I can appreciate new phones hitting the market with labels like "iPhone Killer," it really doesn't make me think twice about my decision to buy an iPhone. I'm pretty well immersed in a Mac world — my work and home computers are both Macs — so for me, it only made sense to get a phone made by Apple.

I, of course, didn't bat an eye when Nokia announced the N9, its own version of the "iPhone Killer", that boasts all the same goodies the iPhone has, plus a far superior Zeiss 5-megapixel camera (with video capabilities), 32GB of memory (expandable to 48GB with SD card), and a sliding QWERTY keyboard. I must admit that I know plenty of iPhone heads that were turned by tech temptation.

Do so-called "iPhone Killers" make you think twice about your purchase?

Sure. I haven't gotten an iPhone yet because I don't feel like paying Verizon to end my husband and my contract early, so we're waiting until June to switch over. However, there are a few things about the iPhone that I don't like that make me think twice about getting one, like the keyboard... I totally prefer QWERTY, but oh well. iPhone here I come!

I was tempted with the BB Storm -- until I tried it at the VZ store. None of those so-called "iPhone killers" compars to the real thing. I've gotten used to the keyboard, and even though I'd love to have MMS and copy/paste, I wouldn't trade it for one with those features.

I don't like the term "iPhone killer" either. The iPhone is good for a lot of things - just like these other phones (the Storm, the G1, the Behold, this N9, the Instinct) are good for a lot of things. They've ALL got their pros and cons

(Hey Geeksugar! Can you write an article about this? I'm so confused with how any of these smartphones are different from each other, and I'd like to get a new phone...the one i started my contract with got stolen and I've got to get a new one anyway)

But, as I'm strapped for cash right now [hooray for trying to go to grad school!], and because I'm opposed to AT&T as a company [we were with them before Cingular merged with them, and it was just as TERRIBLE as it is today], I sadly won't be getting an iPhone. I'm on a 2-year plan with T-Mobile (more minutes for your money!), and I'm not about to make my family pay $600 to break our contracts and $300 more to sign up with AT&T, which I don't even like. It's just financial suicide.

Until AT&T releases themselves from the exclusive contract with Apple, or Apple starts selling unlocked iPhones, I'll be getting something else.

This is a nice looking phone and I have to admit (being an iPhone user) it is quite tempting.

It's precious that so many companies go out of their way to brand their newest touchscreen phone as the next "iPhone killer". Problem is, they rarely even come close. I played around with a Blackberry Storm recently, and while I love Research in Motion and the Curve, the Storm was a severe disappointment. John Krasinski could be selling me one in person, and I still wouldn't give up my iPhone.

I don't own an iPhone so I don't understand the craze. I haven't even been to the store (I have AT&T) to play with an iPhone or Bold or any of those... I just now jumped on the smartphone band wagon. Maybe when I renew again...

I also am immersed into the Mac world and wouldn't go back. I'm a total photo geek, so a better camera would be cool, but I still will never be satisfied with a cell phone camera. I think once you have a DSLR, you can never ever go back.

I don't have an iphone but i do have one the "iPhone Killers". I have the LG Dare since I'm on Verizon and I absolutely love my phone.

Sad to say though, if apple releases the iphone to Verizon I will more then likely switch phones. ha-ha

I looove my iPhone. But, I also have a thing for Nokias. Nokias were my first love when it comes to cell phones. (Leave it to them to add a Carls Zeiss lense to the N9. The downside to Nokias are that they're usually highly overpriced. But, if you've got the money to drop, then you'll probably be pretty satisfied.. They're usually worth every penny &if you're the type that likes to have something different from everyone else, then Nokias are probably the way to go.. Sticking out tongue)

See what I mean about my first love! lol Anyways, since I've gotten the iPhone, I haven't paid much attention to other phones. I'm a gadget freak though..so, I looove to test new phones, gadgets, laptops, mp3 players, etc out. I haven't had the chance to mess with the BB Storm or the Nokia you used as an example. But, if I did play around with em, I most likely wouldn't get them..honestly, nothing can top the iPhone at the moment. No matter how hard the competition tries...they all got their ideas from Apple and Apple's fueling the market. Might as well get the original &wait for the updates. Smiling (If my iPhone ever breaks, I'd definitely go back to using my Nokia 6500slide though. lol)

Steve jobs doesn't impress me with his silly toys. My best friend has the N95, that alone beat a hell of a lot of phones.

ummm I have an LG Chocolate the first version lol. All I need from a phone is for it to work as a phone. I know alot of business people like smartphones, but I see alot of teenagers wanting blackberries and iphones because they are a "status symbol". Is it weird that my only requirements for a phone is 1)for it to be phone and 2)for it to have pretty colors lol.

I'm getting tired of people referring smartphones with touchscreens as being "iPhone Killers".... so what... I'm sick of hearing about the iPhone honestly. Too much hype.

i love my iphone! but i am always tempted by new technology, i always WANT it, bad, but i doubt i will buy ever them. when i bought the iphone i renewed another 2-year contract and i've been happy with them. i think i will stick with my iphone until i can afford to buy a new, better model of a phone.

that nokia looks really awesome! i actually held off on buying the first iphone because i wanted a phone with a sliding QWERTY keyboard. when the 3G came out i swapped, but if my iphone is ever being goofy i switch the sim card and play with my old phone again. but i MUCH prefer my iphone Smiling
