Trail mix is a great treat and there are so many variations which means you can make you own to suit all your snacking needs.
Just mix up some dried fruit (that hasn’t been loaded with sugar) with some nuts (that haven’t been loaded with salt or extra oils). If you need a bit of chocolate (I often do), add a small handful of chocolate chips (or mini chips) to the mix. But control yourself and make sure the ratio is about 3:1 - nuts and fruit, to chocolate.
Why we like it:
Nuts are high in fiber and protein.
Dried fruits are high in fiber and have a great chewy texture to entertain your mouth (isn’t that really the purpose of a snack).
Chocolate needs no explanation.
For some of my favorite mixes read more:
- Cashews, dried cherries and dark chocolate chips
- Almonds, walnuts, dried apricots, dried cranberries and milk chocolate chips
- Tamari roasted almonds, dried ginger, and bittersweet chocolate chips
If you have a favorite mix let me know. I am always looking for new snack ideas.

These all sound delicious!
