A career is a work in progress, and it may take several steps before you can say that you consider your work a career. It is more of a path, whereas a job might be seen as simply a means to an end — like a paycheck. How would you describe your work situation; are you on a career path or is your work just a job to you.

A mentor could be someone at work who is willing to share their knowledge with you and show you the ropes, or it could be someone in your personal life who you rely on for career guidance. Do you have anyone in your life who qualifies as a mentor.

Just for fun, let's pretend your boss approaches you out of the blue and offers you eight weeks' severance including medical benefits. If you don't accept the offer, you keep your job, and if you accept, you'll be jobless in eight weeks and back on the market.

Forty percent of you take the bus or train to work, and
almost just as many of you drive to work alone. Hopefully those of you driving leave the email-checking and book reading for another time, but I'm wondering how you usually occupy yourself during your commute, no matter your mode of transit.

When you think your résumé is the best it can be and are ready to send it to employers, stop and perform this simple task before proceeding. Give it a once over with one question in mind: Is my résumé redundant. Too often job applicants are prone to relying on the same verbs to convey their duties and accomplishments, but doing so can threaten their chances of landing an interview.
Redundancy on a résumé is boring for the person reading it and implies one of two things about the applicant — either she doesn't really want the job because she didn't take the time to polish her résumé, or she isn't resourceful enough to open a thesaurus and get some ideas to effectively include powerful verbs.

Spending hours surrounded by co-workers every day and sharing space means we only have a certain amount of privacy at work. Do you feel like your colleagues respect your privacy?
