Last night's looks from the American Music Awards were very much your standard red carpet fare — wavy curls from the likes of Taylor Swift and Christina Aguilera or loose updos à la Miley Cyrus. Pretty? Yes. Daring? Not really. However, there were a few ladies that lived up to a more rock-and-roll style. Ashley Tisdale wasn't quite as edgy, but her twisted side ponytail was different and chic, while the others played up short asymmetric styles. Rihanna curled it up, Natasha Bedingfield pieced it out, and Pink did a little of both. I'm liking this slightly off-kilter look — it is the music biz, after all.

In the summer there is always the siren call of going blonde. Perhaps it's all that sunshine, but most of us always want to go lighter during the summer months. I'm always tempted to go just a few shades darker for a sleek, shiny Lily Allen look.
