I'm Asking: Is It Now More Unacceptable to Be Flashy?

Over brunch with a girlfriend this weekend, she commented that now it's not cool to be flashy about money, like throwing down $1,000 at a club for a table with bottle service or spending $500 on a sweater when someone makes a $50,000 salary.

The economy is causing people to act differently with their money and towards other people's money — it's not to say that there's no place for splurging in a rocky economy, but do you think that it's now more unacceptable to be flashy even if you have the money to spend?

I'm Asking: Describe Your Least Favorite Co-Worker

One of my favorite moments of last night's episode of The Office was when Michael first sees Toby after his Costa Rican hiatus and repeatedly shouts "no" in Toby's face. Michael doesn't try to keep his distaste for Toby a secret — everyone from the corporate Dunder-Mifflin Office to Scranton knows how much resentment Michael holds for him.

I doubt any of you have tried to set up your co-worker to be busted as a drug dealer, using basil from a caprese salad, no less, but are there any co-workers who you'd describe as your least favorite? Yes, seeing Daniel Craig on the big screen was worth every penny, but I couldn't help but think back to a time when movie tickets weren't so expensive. Which Brand-Name Items Have You Replaced With Store Brands?

More often than not, store brands are priced lower than name brands and sometimes it's difficult to differentiate between the two. Now that stretching our dollars is more of a priority, it appears that more consumers are catching on to the fact that buying store branded items can reduce your grocery bill.

According to a recent survey, 40 percent of primary household shoppers have started buying cheaper store-brand paper products. Which brand-name items have you replaced with store brands on recent shopping trips?

College is all about independence, at least in terms of making every day choices like going to class, what to eat, and how late to stay out. My parents didn't try and stop me when I declared my major, though I knew other students who weren't given the freedom to choose any major they pleased. CNN Money's article "Your highly educated dishwashers" gives a little perspective into the thought process of parents with college-bound kids, and it got me wondering how many of your majors were influenced by your parents.
