Angelenic reports that the Asian-Latin fusion spot
Takami is serving up a seasonal turkey roll. The platter includes a roasted
turkey roll wrapped in soy paper, rice seasoned with dill and chives, avocado, and asparagus. Served alongside are
mashed potatoes with
gravy, vegetables,
cranberry sauce, and a shot of
pumpkin soup.

Ponzu
A citrus-based dressing or dipping sauce that is common in Japanese food. Thin in consistency and brown in color, this substance is made by boiling
mirin, rice vinegar, fish flakes, and seaweed over heat. The liquid is then strained and mixed with
yuzu juice.

Last time I went out for
sushi, I debated over whether to use regular or reduced-sodium soy sauce. Reduced-sodium soy sauce is the condiment of choice for those who are watching sodium intake, as too much sodium can result in high blood pressure. Regular soy sauce, while definitely saltier, has more flavor, in my opinion.

Do you know what this popular vegetable maki
sushi is called?

When my cousin and I went for
sushi, we were seated at a tiny table with a wobbly leg that left my chopsticks rolling around. That is, until he showed me how to make a rest for my chopsticks out of the wrapper. Now I'm passing along my knowledge of what might just be the world's most functional origami piece.

Umami
Discovered 100 years ago by a Japanese scientist, umami is believed to be a fifth taste sensation. The four basic tastes are sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. Umami is considered to be savory.

Whenever I seek a break from sipping
everyday wines, I turn to
sake. The Japanese beverage has a completely different flavor, but is equally refined and extensive in selection.
My favorite way to serve sake is with a coordinating set.

To me, Summer months are meant for bubbly. After a warm day, it's relaxing to have a glass of something cool, chilled, and sparkling. Usually I reach for an inexpensive Prosecco or sparkling rosé, but recently I tried something a little more unusual.

Have you ever made sushi before? I've done it twice and both times were deliciously rewarding. If you want to experiment with
