When I was a fresh college graduate earning my first real paychecks, I quickly saw how living in a city like San Francisco isn't made for entry-level salaries. Exploring the city and all of its nighttime gems were certainly priorities, but the biggest priority was to keep myself out of debt while not depriving myself of enjoying my new surroundings.
I struck a balance by forming the valuable habit of paying all of my bills on pay day.

Adventure and possibility push new grads to move to a new city and many (including yours truly) do so with low entry-level salary offers in hand. While you're sure of your ability to pay monthly rent and are willing to fork over a high percentage of your salary, searching for an apartment without a certain level of income can be an incredibly frustrating process.
Many landlords require a renter's income to be as much as 45 times monthly rent, so new grads without that pedigree might find themselves as I did: moving in to a tiny apartment in a walk-up building with steep stairs, a blocked fire escape, windows that didn't fully close, and a charming water heater taking up half the closet-sized kitchen.

Maybe your degree doesn't hold the title of most lucrative college major, but that hardly means all your four years got you was a meager paycheck.
Forbes gathered median salary information from PayScale.com for 20 popular majors, and while all jobs were included in the study anyone with an advanced degree was not part of it. PayScale's director of quantitative analysis commented that those with majors in economics, finance, and math have remarkable earning potential that can be realized with some experience.

You all surprised me when you indicated that most of your college majors have been put to use since graduation. Because they've earned you some type of job it's apparent that your majors have been lucrative to an extent, but maybe you'd have had an easier go of things if your major had been different.
Personally, I have no regrets even though I'm sure another major would have meant a different career path and higher starting salary.

The newly graduated class of 2008 is busy revising resumes and creating cover letters for potential employers. Some of them have already been working in their first post-college job for a few weeks and others are interviewing, while some have moved back to mom and dad's to figure out what is their next step.
Post-college life was full of surprises for me, but one thing I would tell brand new graduates is the real world can feel a bit lonely at first!

Choosing your move after college graduation can be a positively daunting task because you're faced with the dilemma of too many options! Maybe you're moving to a new city without knowing many people or you're venturing to another part of the country, or maybe your plan is to stay local. It's an exciting decision because you can move anywhere you please and there's nothing controlling your decision but your own ambitions.
