US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice knows how to spend time with VIPs such as Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos: she does so in the comfort of a wingback chair.
Wingback, or wing chairs, are high-backed, upholstered easy chairs whose panels, or "wings," project forward from the sides of the back and curve downward to meet the roll arms. Originally, the wings were designed to block drafts in old homes, and to protect ladies' skin from a fireplace's heat.

If you didn't go for the
Tiny Shoe Advent Calendar, but you're still open to the tradition of advent calendars, you're in luck. I'm sure you can arrive at plenty of ways to
DIY your own, but perhaps you'd just to prefer to shop. I know I should cut back, but as a San Francisco dweller, I'm personally loving the
Gump's Painted Ladies Advent Calendar ($125).
Thanksgiving is approaching and I've been looking around for some festive Fall napkin rings to add a little oomph to my dinner table. The holiday of course calls for
cloth napkins (paper would be a total sin), and since I'll be all dolled up, I can't allow them to go undressed. Napkin rings with a leaf motif are cute but also a little kitschy, so I find myself gravitating toward rings with a seasonal palette of warm tones that don't necessarily have a Fall themed pattern.

I fell completely in lust with these
Tesori Designs Leaf Chairs (inquire for price), which are made out of a solid Alder frame and can be customized. The chairs certainly create a talking point, so much so that you can almost hear them whispering to each other. And they're the perfect way to introduce the Fall season into your home.

I'm totally loving the textural look of the
West Elm Organic Cotton Pintuck Duvet Cover and Shams ($24 and up) that is achieved with pintucks, very narrow ornamental folds or pleats in the fabric sewn in place. Of course the 230-thread-count cotton has its own appeal, but it's really amazing how an easy tuck can really transform a solid fabric like this. I thought I'd see if I couldn't come up with some other pintucked home décor items that I love equally; it wasn't hard.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the month October and the color orange both begin with the letter "o." The two are practically synonymous . .

I know
serious cleaning is usually reserved for Spring, but why not get an early start and clear out your old gadget clutter now? There's bound to be some old cell phones, MP3 players, or even a laptop or two that you aren't using anymore, so why not do the green thing and resale them and get some greenbacks in the process?! But just snapping some photos of your stuff isn't going to fetch buyers on Ebay or Craigslist.

The
Home Shopping Network has bewildered me since the '90s. I never understood the phenomenon, why people get so attached to it . .

I've been on the lookout for a desk for a while now, and while I'll probably choose something in a natural wood finish, I am attracted to some of the brighter colors I've seen out there. While the
Janie Desk ($699) from Pottery Barn Kids is intended for a children's room, I think it would look fantastic in an all-white office, don't you? I love its hot pink shade, which is a fun addition to its traditional shape and spindle legs.

This week rounded out our month of stroller reviews. The double strollers were a delight to test drive, especially since I'm in need of one myself. Check out my
slideshow to see which ones I reviewed this past week.
